For my first trip to South America I decided to visit Ecuador for a week of relaxation, biking, sight-seeing, and shopping. When I was planning my trip, I decided on three areas to visit that were easily accessible in a weeks time, yet would provide a diverse experience of this country. I would start my trip in the capitol city of Quito, with its colonial-era architecture and raucous nightlife. Next, I would move on to Baños, located on the fringe of the Amazon and popular for its waterfalls and scenic bike routes through the Andes. I would spend my last night in Otavalo, where on Saturday morning I would experience the indigenous market which dates to pre-colonial times.
